Ιδρύθηκε το 1893 και «ξηλώθηκε» το 1954 όταν η κυβέρνηση αποφάσισε την κατάργηση του. Αρχικά αποξηλώθηκαν οι γραμμές επί της Βασιλίσσης Όλγας.
Η αυλαία έπεσε το 1957 με τη αποξήλωση των γραμμών που διέρχονταν από την Εγνατία.

Thessaloniki 120 years old tram rails, revealed at renovation works in the city center. The tram, once passing through the most central roads of Thessaloniki, served with the few buses of the time the transport needs of the city's inhabitants.
